The Spiritual Voice

The Spiritual Voice podcast is a show about spirituality from all walks of life, designed with the inquisitive soul in mind. While we might feature a guest or two with backgrounds in Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen, or Taoism, from priests to psychics, these interviews don’t tread familiar ground. Our goal is to empower self-discovery and personal development by presenting useful practices, techniques, recommendations, and resources from a panoply of traditions, cultures, and sociological perspectives. Mysticism, Sufism, meditation, yogic, mantras & tantric traditions, alchemy, shamanism, divination, ancient wisdom traditions, angels, trance, God/god, art, tarot, psychedelics, minimalism, karma, spiritual pilgrimages, travel, the awakening process, and even a dominatrix are just some of the points of view we’ve brought to listeners interested in exploring how and why they believe what they believe. Host Pol Cousineau, a CPA, Marketing and Technology Expert, and Spiritual Health & Leadership Mentor, asks the big questions, getting his guests to offer up sometimes surprising and always inspiring answers. Dr Janet Smith Warfield shares about the importance and the power of words. She first got acquainted with words through journaling to discover what was going on in her life. She then goes in more detail about powerful life changing experiences that occurred in her 30s.

Janet discusses the shift that is possible in the meaning of words. The intention, authenticity and genuineness has a major impact on how our message is received and it can influence the conduct of people.

There can be a difference between the speaker’s intention and the listener’s context. Because of this it is important that we become aware of what words do for us. Instead of reacting, we can hear the information and needs of other people involved in the communication. It is important to act from a place of belief that the other person has good intentions.

Learn how language and words can evolve throughout your life through Janet’s personal experience with the word Knowledge.

Tune in to the interview to learn how you can live more harmoniously through mastering words and conscious communication.

Jennifer Gilchrist engaged in a conversation on the Universe as a Guide. The fun start when she shares her experience of swimming with wild dolphins over 40 times. She realized that dolphins communicate through telepathy and their sonars first hand. It is important not to touch the dolphins or feed them as to honor them. Jennifer is a Soul Success Mentor and Speaker that includes angel communication in her personal and business life.

Listen to our conversation as we explore spiritual awakening and communication with angels. Angel means chief messenger of God. They help guide us when we are in a place of fear. Jennifer demystifies the aspects represented by the angels and whether or not it requires a particular faith to work with them.

When you listen you will also get advice on how to proceed when we are being triggered by fear. You will also get detailed guidance on how to start working with your angels as well as angel cards.

Tune in to our interview to discover the intersection of asking, intuition, intention, action and reflection.

I had the pleasure of exploring the topic of yoga healing meditation with Donna Sellers. Everything is connected which is why it is important to consider all of the aspects of your being in a healing process. Our expert Donna Sellers mentions in our conversation on yoga, meditation and healing that pain is a story. This means that the brain has a huge role to play in how we receive and deal with pain. The stories come from different patterns that we’ve created. By noticing our patterns, we can start to change our stories.

Yoga is yoga because of the breath awareness. When you remove the breath from yoga it is simply exercise. When you move while noticing your breath you deepen your awareness of what is happening for you in this moment. Meditation also allows you to do the same thing. By practicing moment to moment awareness in relation to your body you will see that the pain starts to change.

Our discussion includes how to cultivate and monitor the range of motions which feel safe to you. As our conversation evolves Donna shares on visualization, meditation and benefits beyond the physical body.

Listen to get an understanding of self-compassion and how to bring more ease into your life.

The interview I did with Terrell Harris is filled with value. We start off discussing the Spirit of Social Media which turns into meditation to defrag the brain, inter-faith dialogues, conversations with God and how you can move forward sharing your unique message of spirit into the world.

When Terrell was at seminary the pastor of the church asked him to explore getting him on Twitter. This is what led him to go on social media. I realized that particularly on Twitter a lot of people are honest, for example when searching for purpose. Terrell decided to meet people where they are at because a lot of them are on their smart phones.

Terrell gives advice on how to find Twitter posts that have meaning, substance and tips that will help you grow. You can find Terrell on Twitter to engage in a conversation and get connected with others that have purposeful soulful conversations through his handle @MrTerrellHarris .

As the conversation evolves Terrell brings up the concept of cell phone or technology dementia. There is a lot of junk online which makes it important for us to parse through what will serve us and is true. To get an idea of the magnitude of the online content being uploaded, Pinterest “What happens online every 60 seconds?” will give you a snapshot of what is happening online.

On Facebook and Twitter you have the ability to create a list which determines the priority of the content featured on your news feed. By setting this up you have more control over the information you consume. Regardless of this getting unplugged from the internet is important. For example, by doing meditation time it allows you to defragment your mind.

Later we talk about embracing people from different spiritual paths and beliefs. Terrell shares his experience of interacting with different faith communities. This leads us to an in-depth exchange on the importance of conversation between ourselves as well as God.

Mindfulness is not something that appealed to me when I first heard about it. My idea of mindfulness was to sit on a cushion and meditate in silence. In this interview with Brian R. King several forms of mindfulness are explored.

Personal stories are shared which brings you tangible examples of how your life could benefit from mindfulness. The conversation starts off with Brian discussing decisions he made for his son which also offered him a more satisfying life. Our words shift to exploring the big hole that many people experience in their lives before heading into a story of how I first resisted a relationship with my life.

Brian brings the conversations straight to you, asking what do you want to create? What will make you happy? You are a creator and the greatest fulfillment accessible to you is the one that you generate from within.

Listen to the interview for practical insights and personal stories.

This show starts and ends with the word ‘Purple’. This is how we start down the rabbit hole as Brian Tohana brings forward the concepts of connection, vulnerability, creativity and freedom. Our discussion touches judgement, values, environment as well as sexual energy.

How do you find your own voice? What does truth mean and how carries it? Brian offers us an analogy with a puzzle to provide you with a trail to discover this answer. He also mentions how you can tap into your creativity and offers an expansive definition of artistic expression.

The topic of balance, between striving for perfection and not moving forward at all, is discussed at length. This interview offers you more views into my interpretation of spiritual leadership, both personal and global, as well as how you may navigate periods of transition. By tag teaming with Brian we bring you and interview that is full of meaning, literally and figuratively.

Tune in to our conversation which is all about YOU.

This free flowing conversation with Anthony Sargent is all about creativity and freedom. We examine the various shades, perspectives and angles which this can take. Finding peace and stepping into a rich life full of opportunities and happiness is available to everyone. In the show he recounts his experience of meditating for the first time while in a washroom. This makes it clear that profound experience can happen truly anywhere.

A myriad of topics are covered including how his quest to learn how to make money led him to find happiness. He discusses why he is changing direction from his Bursting Through The 925 Podcast to the 600 Degrees of Separation podcast. The concept of veganism as well as flow and zone states are inserted which ties right back to Ep.0040 on Sports & Spirituality with Cole Johnson. We get familiar with anger and then go back full circle to creativity.

How does your life change when you touch ‘it’? When you have a moment of peace? What we talk about is an experience that most of us aspire to have in our life. Should you chase it or not?

Open your creativity, sit back and tune in to this eye opening transmission.

This is a special episode as we’ve never discussed sports before. I know that our guest, Cole Johnson, was deeply moved by the opportunity to talk about spirituality and sports. Several aspects are covered including an analogy of David and Goliath, the ten scriptures, and the athlete mindset.

The conversation goes to the next level as we discuss the role of the spectator in sports and then pivot into the role of the spectator in spirituality. The infamous zone and flow states are also explored in Ep.0028 Millionaire Inner Zone with JV Crum III.

According to Cole, a life without faith is a life without purpose. What does he mean by this? What does this have to do with sports?

Listen to the show to find out and expand your horizons.

I’m excited for today’s show and our theme which is the Power of Faith, Religious and Non Religious with Warren Broad. This is a great topic that I feel will bring value to you for the rest of your life. At first glance I was thinking, non religious faith? Sure… but what about faith when you don’t believe in spirituality?

Is that even possible? But then I realized that when I put everything on the line to go work with shamans in the jungle of Peru it was surely an act of faith. I considered myself atheist at that time. At a bare minimum this has to be what our guest means by an act of faith… but we’ll let him answer that himself.

Faith doesn’t have to be attached to any religion or dogma. Even driving your car can be considered a leap of faith. We are using faith all the time although there are obviously different types of faith and outcomes of faith.

Typically, religious people put their faith and believe in something that they can’t see or proven and that it will have some sort of impact on their life. Warren presents another type of faith which is tied to the ‘faith phenomenon’. When you begin to have faith in your healing or religious a transition can happen in the brain from simply thinking it to experiencing faith. There is a transformation that happens when you don’t simply use the analytical mind.

Warren goes into the subject of confidence and how it relates to the spiritual component of faith. An example is provided using sports and running. Faith is about knowing.

When we hit a bottom we look for a place in our lives for the world, spirit or lack of spirit to show us something. Whether we are spiritual or not does not prevent a person from accessing faith, the power which it provides and improving your life through it.

Faith allows growth to happen. It is an essential component of what we are as human beings. Warren gives you several tools and methods to increase your faith. He gives you examples of physical manifestations of the power of faith as well as the ripple effects that are made possible. In the later part of the interview our guest goes in more length about the concept of checking in, the forms that it can take and how this will help you access the power of faith.

Listen to this episode with Warren Broad and gain insights on the power of faith and how it can transform your life.

Technique / Practice for Direct Experience

Warren discusses the importance of checking in to cultivate faith. He gives you several methods that you can use for this.

Checking in can be having a conversation with your God such as the practice done by many Christians.

You can check in by doing a regular meditation practice. This can be with or without sounds or chanting.

Checking in can also be a very direct conversation with another person. Warren gives several examples of how you can check-in with another person.

Checking in can be an internal process such as taking a few deep breaths to disconnect from the stimulation of the external world. This is followed by a few breaths to listen to your body, feelings, emotions and thoughts.

Win Charles talks about taking charge of your destiny and moving forward with your dreams and aspirations regardless of the obstacles that present themselves on your way is a perfect example of living spiritually, at least in my book.

Our guest is living her life fully as if she is an able bodied person. She manages to take charge of her life regardless of a disability which is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain. This can be caused by so many events and everyone can have this disability at any stage of her life. When the term able bodied person is used it means being ‘mainstream’ and going through life with people without disabilities.

Win shares her experience of participating in the Kona IronMan Triathlon which taught her how to be in her own body, being her person, learning to say no and how it changed her life. One of the key lessons was the importance of saying no as well as the role of a vision in major life undertakings.

She brings forward an attitude of letting mother nature taking care of the unfolding of events. There is a brief mention of Win’s Women of Wisdom podcast where you can get more insights a behind the scenes understanding of Pol’s journey. Then Win goes into more details as to living a life with a greater mission and how to live beyond the mechanics of ticking off actions from a to-do list.

Win talks about 2 key moments in which she started to smell the roses. One of them was losing her ability to walk and the second was seeing her mother die. She asked for her mother’s approval to write a book about her disability and challenges for which she received approval to do it gracefully. As we continue our conversation the concept of glamorous illnesses is put out there for us to consider the implication this has on people’s lives.

As we get into the core of the interview Win goes into the concept of uncertainties, not knowing and facing life without being able to predict what is next. Who doesn’t face life without the certainty of what will by their next step? Could your life’s event and challenges trigger a journey of soul searching and discovering who you are?

Win’s spiritual journey took her from one religion to becoming atheist to finally find a new religion that speaks well with her. Listen to interview to tune in to Win’s message and what it means for your life.

Win offers you a process to begin writing your first book which will offer you a tool to connect with a deeper mission and purpose for your life.

Open an iPhone notepad and then ask ‘Siri I want to write’. This will type out what you are saying in the notepad. Use this technique to write a page every day. Start with Chapter 1 and then go to Chapter 10.

Start this practice with 20 minutes a day and next thing you know you will be an author.

You can also find a resource Dictate Your Book on Amazon or Audible so that you can use Dragon Naturally Speaking to write a book.

I’m sure that today’s show will bring you many reflections. Our guest Ralph White is the author of the memoir, The Jeweled Highway: On the Quest for a Life of Meaning, which is the first memoir I have read in my life. This interviews gives you an more in-depth look into this man’s life, the state of the world, conscious movements and how all of this relates with your life and how you can live with a purpose that is fulfilling.

As soon as I read the back of the book and the first few pages I was totally drawn in. I found life story and message compelling and extremely relevant to us at The Spiritual Voice. Living a rich life and accomplishing a mission that is bigger than us is a seed that I feel is in each of us, including you.

Our culture is deeply damaging our souls and the biosphere in the Western industrial civilization. We need to have an alternative through holistic ways of life. Ralph gives insights on the emerging Conscious Movement.

Ralph talks about the different challenges and struggles as well as poverty that he faced while moving towards fulfilling his life mission. He made the pursue of mystical truth the priority of his life which is what fueled his choices. Our guest contrasts the current landscape to that of the era of 70s and 80s. The start of Esalen, the Omega Institute and other opportunities which were simply sprouting as well as dismissed as junk during those pioneering time.

When Ralph started the New York Open Center in 1983 everyone thought that it would never work. He relates with everyone that is starting something which can feel as if it will never look at its inception. Although today we face more challenging financial obstacles as well as competition, the world and people in general are much more receptive of holistic projects.

Ralph held the belief that we must transform our culture. Once he came to this realization he pondered on the best strategy to accomplish this. He paints a picture that we are in a time for the struggle of the soul of humanity.

Together we discuss the possibilities for you to access sources of transcendence in the context of our urban landscape. Simply glancing outside of your window to contemplate the sunset can give you access to beauty in our world. The key is to find work that takes you into flow which will bring you completely present in the moment.

Change tends to come from outside of the mainstream culture by individuals that are not burdened by the taboos of religious, philosophical or scientific worldviews. These people follow their vision of what they believe to be important to regardless of the obstacles on their path. Individuals coming into an awakening within themselves will bring meaningful change into the world. Once you start getting responses from other people you get fueled to pursue your vision. Fulfilling work is about the number of lives that you can impact rather than the accumulation of wealth.

Ralph discusses meeting several allies and supporters on his path which may seem like perfect synchronicity. Although from a lived experience the connections could take several years to sprout. There was a lot of unknown when he pursued new paths, friendships, connections and projects. In the moment you really don’t know how everything will unfold.

The conversation evolves into ways we can seize opportunities and the path of truth. Listen to this exciting interview to reflect on your own existential questions.

In this interview Ian White Maher talks about devotion andpraise. When I prepared for the show I was asking myself, what doesthis actually mean? It also brought back memories of rebellingagainst anything and everything devotional in my adolescence whichled me to a phase of being an atheist.

The concept of resisting devotion and praise is an experiencecan feel anti-intellectual. Both Pol and his guest Ian had a periodin their life where they resisted these concepts and practices. Ianin his youth was simultaneously living in a Buddhist temple livingdevotion in the morning while questioning it in the afternoon. Whodoesn’t resonate with the impression of living a double life?

Ian mentions that moving forward towards your calling can bescary as there is a fear that nothing will ever be the sameafterwards. The divine for him is very demanding, in the sense thatit gives us a reflection of our life. Having worked in a cubiclefor 9 months of his life he has the awareness that this way ofgoing through his days was painful. How did he know? He was seekingall sorts of external stimulations that were not healthy.

Our guest mentions that being in divinity is a hard experiencewhich he associates with having a strong ego. He notices that hisego is fighting to be separate and when he sinks into the truth ofit admits that it is NOT hard to live with the divine. As you cansee this interview exposes polarities and will help you betterappreciate and understand your personal journey.

How do you reconcile the tug of the ego and the flow of thedivine? Ian goes in more details about the usefulness of techniquesas well as the fact that there are no true techniques. His approachconsists in being in a dialogue with God every day which iscreation speaking to him.

As our conversation evolves Ian invites you to consider that ifyou have come across The Spiritual Voice it is not a coincidenceand that there is a longing inside of you. You are here because youare loving it, even if at times you may not like what it means yetyou still love it. This is followed by an acknowledgement of thestate of the current world, the spiritual crisis and we will canrestore balance within and outside.

This interview teases you with the meaning of praise. Thisnatural evolution of our exchange will stimulate your ownunderstanding of what this means for you. Listen to the interviewto join us for this adventure!

Ian extends an invitation for you to practice devotional singingor dancing. You can do it at home although this tends to be easierin community.

Find people to do dance and devotional singing in your area is agood first step before doing it by yourself. This will make youstronger by doing it with others. Look for a meetup group in yourarea that does devotional singing and you can even make a post onFacebook saying that you are interested in trying this.

As you sing the important thing is for you to pay attention tothe poles within your own body. Let go of the intellect and if younotice your ego, simply take a moment to recognize that this ishappening. Listen to your body and let yourself be guided by howyour body wants to be moved. Am I in touch with the longing thatbrought me here? Am I in touch with the divine’s desire for me?Then there is no right or wrong and I can just dance or sing anduse my body as a form of praise.

Tina Sacchi brings us a discussion on the topic of My Spirit is not Religious which is also the title of her book. Our conversation touches SBNR – Spiritual But Not Religious – Atheism as well as coming out of the spiritual closet. We start off by going into concepts of having a spiritually fulfilling life and follow-up with a series of questions to better understand spiritual counselling and for you to reflect on your life progression.

As the discussion expands we talk about guilt, passing away and life celebrations as we add the lens of shamanism. Before we get there Tina focuses on how you can embrace who you are and invite more love into your day to day life. This is a fascinating interview that will help you take the next step on your journey and get in touch with your emotions for healing and living a blessed life.

Tina guides you through a reflective process that gives you insights into spiritual counselling as well as the next steps you may want to take in your life.

Pretend that it is your death bed. At that point you are probably going to ask yourself some questions.

One of those will likely be ‘Did I do what I came here to do?’ If you were to leave tomorrow, what is it that your spirit would want to have done tomorrow?

Did you allow yourself to be happy? What area of your life would you like to see more happiness and ease? Where would you like it to be more loving?

Did I live openly and spirituality? How much more spiritual can you be?
